A wedding aboard! (India here I come!)

I’m so happy to have booked a wedding abroad last week! I will be shooting Nikki & Rohit’s wedding in Goa, India this mid-December and I couldn’t be more excited! It’s times like these where I have to reel myself in from packing every (digital and film) camera I own.

I keep thinking about how lucky it is that part of my job is to immerse myself in other cultures. How grand it will be to witness Indian wedding traditions in no other than in the country of origin itself. If you know me at all, you know that it hasn’t escaped me how special this opportunity is.

Traveling is one of my top 3 favorite things in life. I’m always up for an adventure and opening myself up to a world that is completely unknown to me. While the wedding celebration will span a total of two days, I will take a week or so afterwards to explore the country a bit more. I know people have spent lifetimes traveling India, but I will try to do my best with the time I have.

“Goa is a state in western India with coastlines stretching along the Arabian Sea. Its long history as a Portuguese colony prior to 1961 is evident in its preserved 16th-century churches and the area’s tropical spice plantations. Goa is also known for its beaches, ranging from popular stretches at Baga and Palolem to laid-back fishing villages such as Agonda.” Google

A place I am determined to visit, before leaving India, is the city of Varanasi (below). It’s regarded as one of the oldest and holiest cities in the world and is the spiritual capital of India. The city draws pilgrims who bathe in the River Ganges’ sacred waters and perform funeral rites.

If there’s anything I am sure about, it’s that I will come back from my trip with many photos to share. Until then!
