Production stills for documentary film: Dalya’s Other Country (NOW STREAMING!)

In May of last year (2016), I was asked to photograph some production stills for a documentary film called Dalya’s Other Country, directed/produced by Julia Meltzer, and co-produced by Mustafa Rony Zeno. One of my photographs ended up as the poster for the film, and that film is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime!

The film follows 4 years of life changes for Dalya & her mom Rudayna as they arrive in Los Angeles from Aleppo, Syria.

Werk It! A Women’s Podcast Festival

This past October I had the honor of documenting Werk It! (a 3-day women’s podcast festival presented by WNYC Studios at The Theatre at the Ace Hotel), Los Angeles.

Werk It launched in 2015 to expand women’s voices in podcasting. At the time, only 20% of all podcasts in the iTunes top 100 chart were hosted by women. THAT’S CRAZY. I’ve been so excited to help capture this event and watch women help other women hone their skills, develop their voices, and meet other like-minded women. This is my shit guys. So stoked to have been included in such good company. 🙏🏻

I’m gearing up to get on the road at the end of August through September, traveling to several border towns with AMBOS (Art Made Between Opposite Sides) and Tanya Aguiñiga‘s Border Quipu. After bringing the project to all of the border crossings in California last year, AMBOS Project will be on the road taking the Border Quipu and other various artistic interventions to all of the border crossings from Lukeville, Arizona to El Paso, Texas. I helped document this project last year at the Tijuana/San Diego border and I am even more excited to join them on the road to document this next extension.

Clockshop Event: Reading by Moonrise, Diana Nyad

I had the privilege of photographing Clockshop‘s most recent event with Diana Nyad at Bowtie Project, two weekends ago this July. It was a pleasant summer evening around the fire while author and celebrated long distance swimmer Diana Nyad shared excerpts from her memoir, Find a Way, as the full moon rose over the L.A. River.

Reading by Moonrise is a fireside reading series organized by Clockshop and held at the Bowtie Project on the eve of the full moon. Guests are encouraged to bring picnic items and blankets and s’mores are provided after the reading.
