Good news this morning: my summer artist residency application in Havana, Cuba was ✨ACCEPTED✨! I will be spending the first half of July working on a photo project that has been simmering on the back burners of my mind for the last 3 years since my mother passed. I want to develop a series of photographs and text for a photo book about identity, place, and loss and I’m looking forward to immersing myself in work and the motherland.
A big thank you to everyone who came out to the opening reception of Borderlands Within, an exhibition for Tanya Aguiñiga & AMBOS‘ work at the Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena. It was so wonderful to see so many warm, familiar faces. Thank you for helping us celebrate the culmination of 4 years of hard work on the US-Mexico border.
The exhibit is now open to the public until August 2020 — go check it out while you can.
I’m including a few photos from the event, below!
Here are the photos I shot for Tanya Aguiñiga’s performance, Metabolizing the Border, January 2020, at the Otay, CA/Tijuana, Mexico border.
Tanya’s solo exhibition ‘Borderlands Within’ just opened at Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena and runs through August of 2020. Come check out the exhibit, which includes these photos I took of her performance. For 1.5 hours, Tanya walked back and forth along the US-Mexico border wall wearing the glass suit.
Last week was a really special one for me. Photographs I took during a 3 year period at the US/Mexico border (spanning from California through Texas) with AMBOS Project and Tanya Aguiñiga opened in a new exhibit W|ALLS: Defend, Divide and the Divine at the Annenberg Space for Photography.
I was away in Jamaica 🇯🇲 for 5 days this past September shooting Alex & Howard’s wedding at The Rockhouse Hotel in Negril. I’m still recovering from all the dancing I witnessed (perma-grin won’t unstick) and I freely floated in the Caribbean Sea and watched as tropical rains came and went. But really my favorite thing was being on Howard’s home country and meeting his kind family and closest friends and seeing the happiness on Alex’s face when she got to show her American family and friends a country that has grown close to her heart. Thank you again for including me in the party! Here’s a sneak peek of images (and a video of dancing I shot!) for you all. ✌️ Bless Up! & Respect!
Are you ready for this prom wedding that I shot last August?! My goodness, I had so much fun photographing this party. I always appreciate when people think “outside the box” and really, your wedding should be anything and everything you want it to be. With Christy and Stuart, they did just exactly that. I believe first and foremost that you make the rules of the party, and I’ll be as happy as a clam to photograph exactly how it went down. Promise.
