Michelle & Joel’s Santa Ana Courthouse Wedding

I was lucky to photograph Michelle & Joel’s intimate courthouse wedding in Orange County last February of this year! We met at the Santa Ana courthouse, got them married, then met up again in Los Angeles for a small dinner at The Larchmont with their immediate family and dearest friends.

“We loved working with Gina for our courthouse wedding! We interviewed a few photographers, but we picked Gina because she seemed most like someone we would already be friends with. She has a very kind and calming presence, which came in handy because the courthouse was a madhouse that day (we’ll be sharing our anniversary with A LOT of couples!). It was super crowded and crazy, which led to our timeline running longer than expected, but Gina took it all in stride, and our photos turned out great. Gina did a wonderful job capturing the story of our wedding, including many lovely candid shots of us and our families. She has a great eye for composition and small moments, and she is as adept at capturing humor as emotion. On top of that, she is as organized as she is chill (a rare combination), and very responsive with all communication, even after the wedding. Highly recommended!” — Michelle & Joel

Emilie & Erik’s Danish American Backyard Wedding (Orange County)

This past April I made my way down to Orange County to capture Emilie and Erik’s wedding in the backyard for Emilie’s family home. I’ve said it before, but I love backyard weddings. It makes so much sense to me that a wedding would take place somewhere as intimate as a home. I had so much fun keeping up with all the Danish wedding traditions, which I definitely googled post-wedding shoot for a better understanding of what I was witnessing and documenting. All the texts below in italics are things I found online that I copied-and-pasted, to give you an idea of what I am talking about!

Rachel & Chris’ Fig House (Highland Park) Wedding

I love this wedding from April of last year at The Fig House. Chris & Rachel’s style is effortless and they definitely chose the venue to match. The Fig House’s self-described style is “a contemporary spin on art-deco with a nod to the rich history of Highland Park” (Los Angeles). They spent their week-day wedding surrounded by their closest family and friends and closed out the night with a killer dance party, with songs that Chris hand-picked for a playlist for the entire celebration. Not bad for a Thursday night!

Christy & Stuart’s Santa Monica Prom Wedding

Are you ready for this prom wedding that I shot last August?! My goodness, I had so much fun photographing this party. I always appreciate when people think “outside the box” and really, your wedding should be anything and everything you want it to be. With Christy and Stuart, they did just exactly that. I believe first and foremost that you make the rules of the party, and I’ll be as happy as a clam to photograph exactly how it went down. Promise.

A Practical Wedding (APW) Blog Feature!

How cool is it that APW featured  Katie & Mike’s Joshua Tree Hicksville Trailer Palace wedding this month?! I was so happy that they went as gaga for it as I did. Katie & Mike’s wedding was truly a sight to be seen… a small group of family and friends lovin’ on each other in the desert for a weekend. What a dream, some would call it paradise!

Mid-Wedding Season Breather

Wedding season is in full effect and I’ve been keepin’ it busy, keepin’ it real.

I thought I’d take this time to stop and wave my hand around. I have a moment to myself after shooting 4 weddings in 4 weekends, but without this mid-wedding season breather update, how would you know? I have to write this for myself as well. It’s easy to write off all this running around as a “blur”. But it was so much more than a “blur”. It was 4 weekends of traveling to 4 destinations to photograph 8 really wonderful people. Everyone has their own story, their own worlds, and I’m constantly thankful to be invited into the fold, at least just for a day.

A Year Ago Today…

I wrote the following stream-of-consciousness on my Facebook a few days ago and I gave it some thought and decided that it should live here on my blog as well.

A year ago today, I shot Sia‘s wedding in Palm Springs. It was a day with wicked weather that started with heavy rain and lightning bolts that threatened flash floods through the desert resort town. It all seemed so sudden and strange at the time, but I suppose that is what I’ve come to understand about life.
