Clockshop Event: Carmina Escobar Performance, “FUENTES / This Nature of Ours”

Here are some photos I shot of Carmina Escobar’s performance at The Bowtie Project for Clockshop. Escobar filled the historic Roundhouse at the Bowtie Project with light and sound for her site-specific performance FUENTES / This Nature of Ours. This performance, organized by Clockshop, was part of the Department of Cultural Affair‘s  first ever public art biennial, Current:LA.

A Cocktail Party Benefiting the Women’s Center for Creative Work (WCCW)

I had the honor of photographing this year’s Women’s Center for Creative Work cocktail party benefit, hosted by Jill Soloway, a few weekends back this December. Yay WCCW, thank you for the work you do.

Founded in 2013, the Women’s Center for Creative Work, or WCCW, is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to cultivate LA’s feminist creative communities and practices.

Combining a co-workspace on the LA river in Frogtown, project incubation facilities, residency programs, a rapidly growing network of over 16,000 followers, and a full calendar of artistic and professional development programming, WCCW advocates for feminist-led creative businesses and projects in Los Angeles.

Clockshop Event: Hear Sunday, Patty Schemel & the Ladies of the Canyon

I was asked to photograph Clockshop’s most recent Hear Sunday event with Patty Schemel the last weekend of October.

Patty Schemel was at the epicenter of the Seattle grunge scene in the 1990’s. She is best known as the drummer of the alternative rock band Hole. For this special Hear Sunday event, Schemel read from her new memoir Hit So Hard (Da Capo Press, 2017) and performed covers of favorite songs with Nina Gordon, Louise Post and Eva Gardner as the Ladies of the Canyon.

Clockshop Event: Reading by Moonrise, Diana Nyad

I had the privilege of photographing Clockshop‘s most recent event with Diana Nyad at Bowtie Project, two weekends ago this July. It was a pleasant summer evening around the fire while author and celebrated long distance swimmer Diana Nyad shared excerpts from her memoir, Find a Way, as the full moon rose over the L.A. River.

Reading by Moonrise is a fireside reading series organized by Clockshop and held at the Bowtie Project on the eve of the full moon. Guests are encouraged to bring picnic items and blankets and s’mores are provided after the reading.

Clockshop Event: One Body of Water By Carolina Caycedo

I’m excited to share some photographs I shot for Clockshop‘s One Body of Water event last month. One Body of Water was a new performance by artist Carolina Caycedo, developed in response to the Bowtie Parcel. One Body of Water intertwines the stories of three contested rivers of the Americas: the Magdalena (Colombia), Yaqui (Mexico), and Elwha (Washington, US) rivers. Resonating with indigenous oral traditions, Caycedo and her collaborators embody the voice of the rivers around a fire, inviting us to shift the way we think about nature, and how we interact with non-human bodies. The performance began with a blessing by the Gabrielino Tongva Tribe.
